Taste the TerraVita Food & Drink Festival
If you have the taste buds for it, Chapel Hill hosts one of the best southern food festivals in the country this October that you can’t miss. The TerraVita Food & Drink Festival, approaching its 8th annual celebration, is a premier culinary event that brings together award-winning chefs, authors, educators, producers, and farmers in one food-filled location. What makes this event so impressive is how it demonstrates the ideal of sustainable living and eating. By employing intensive use of compostable goods and recycling, TerraVita is a zero-waste event, a living and breathing example of how large-scale events can still be eco-friendly.
Enjoy fresh-brewed coffee, live music, or delicious North Carolina sweet potatoes at Terra Vita’s many events during the three-day period, October 18-21. The East Meets West dinner event is the first dining event of the festival and is a combination of Carolina coastal cuisine and western mountain dishes served family style. Select Craft beer and cocktails provided by TOPO Distillery and Top of the Hill Brewery with wines provided by Sour Grapes.
There’s a lot to learn at TerraVita, especially about eating locally and sustainably. Besides delicious dining events with some of North Carolina’s most talented chefs, you can also attend a workshop at TerraVita. The Feeding Your Soul: A Wellness Workshop is a refreshing day-long retreat at The Parlour at Manns Chapel offering yoga, meditation, and nutritional guidance from experts. Included are snacks and a healthy lunch. Discover new recipes from EatingWell expert Breana Lai and don’t forget to bring your own yoga mat! Other informative sessions and events at the TerraVita Festival is Into the Wild: Feasting on the Foraged. Tickets are $65 and the meeting location is at the Barn of Chapel Hill. A small group of no more than two dozen heads will forage for wild edibles, led by experts, and then attend a wild cocktail class before preparing your own lunch with freshly-foraged ingredients.
Available for purchase are The Whole Shebang tickets, which includes a ticket to seven events and dinners including an after party, early admittance to the Grand Tasting on the Green, and two raffle tickets. The Whole Shebang and other tickets for select events can be purchased on the website. The TerraVita Food & Drink Festival is October 18-21 at various locations in the area. Visit the website and schedule for more details.
