Off to the Races at Orange County Speedway
Orange County Speedway is one of the most historic courses in car racing history and the fastest ⅜ course in America. First opened in 1963, the asphalt oval features 19 degree banking through the turns and 16 degrees on the straightaways. This creates three distinct grooves and makes for very fast turning, holding true to the race course’s slogan. Stands stretch from the fourth turn to the first with a capacity for 12,400 people and in recent years the speedway has once again become a favorite pastime for residents and visitors.
Some of the most famous names in stock car racing have raced at Orange County Speedway, including Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon. Known as the Xfinity Series today, the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series had 27 races here between 1983 and 1994; it was one of the region’s first courses to have live televised Busch races.
