The North Carolina Carrboro Music Festival
Since the 1960s, the Triangle area of North Carolina has bloomed into a vibrant and diverse culture known for its progressive ideals and fostering of the arts. And it’s full of talented artists and musicians. With annual events like the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, Carrboro Film Festival, and Carrboro Music Festival, the town of Carrboro is one Triangle community that provides a venue for these individuals and groups to showcase their talents. One annual event is the Carrboro Music Festival, a multi-venue, two-day event that originally started as the worldwide French celebration, Fete de la Musique. Some Carrboro shows can be found outside while others are held in some of Carrboro’s best-loved coffee shops and concert halls. In all, more than 200 artists perform on 30 different stages from one end of Carrboro to the other.
The Carrboro Music Festival, started in 1998, provides a professional platform for Triangle area musicians to perform with an eclectic variety of styles in diverse musical genres such as rock, blues, jazz, folk, celtic, bluegrass, and more. See downtown Carrboro transformed into one big concert venue and visit individual music venues and traditional stages like Open Eye, The Station, and Cat’s Cradle, a venue that has hosted such recognizable names as Nirvana, Iggy Pop, and John Mayer. Open Eye Café is also a great option to grab a cup of coffee and relax in a laid-back environment with live music and art on display by some of the Triangle’s locals. Visit Open Eye’s website to browse a menu, get directions, or check the calendar for the current exhibiting artist. The Station is a historic landmark older than Carrboro itself that serves a wide range of craft brews, select wine, and food from CrossTies Barbecue. The Station holds live musical events on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Keep up to date on their online calendar and check who’s playing during your stay at The Inn at Governor’s Club.
This year’s Festival will be held on Saturday, September 23rd and September 24th, marking the 20th year of the annual event. Visit the event’s website for more information
