Durham’s 43rd Annual Centerfest
Discover some of the region’s best artists for free at the 43rd Annual CenterFest in downtown Durham. Voted one of the Top 100 Arts Festivals in the country, the juried show showcases over 140 visual artists and original handcrafts in mediums such as clay, drawing, glass, painting, jewelry, sculpture, and more. The event also features 75 performing acts on six different stages with more than 600 total performers. Enjoy locally-sourced from favorite eateries as well as international cuisine while you vote for the Citizens’ Choice Award.
The arts festival provides a great shopping opportunity for all art lovers with its eclectic mix of style and artistic genres and mediums. Continuous music and a casual up-close and personal experience with local artists will let you really get to know the area and leave knowing that you’ve gotten to know Chapel Hill and the nearby towns authentically. It’s the very place you’ll be in that has inspired all of these talented minds to create what you’ll find at CenterFest, so getting to know the artists and their muse is an experience that will only make you more familiar with the region during your visit; it provides familiarity, friendliness, and a comfortable sense of home that we crave, especially on trips away from our own.
Piano players on the street, a robotic statue that comes to life to play drums, and the hilarious spontaneity of improv-style comedy are just a few things to look forward to when planning a visit to CenterFest. The lineup is truly diverse, adding a martial arts performance and the harmonics of one of the largest glass instruments in the world. Grab a bite to eat after the festival by finding some fine dining or keep your eyes out for Durham’s food trucks (you can often find them on Geer Street or at one of the breweries) for some unique and delicious options before heading back to The Inn at Governor’s Club. You can find a full list of the town’s food trucks here.
Visit the event’s website for more information, directions, and lists of performances and artists. The CenterFest Arts Festival will be held on September 16th to 17th, 10AM to 5PM.
