Chinese Lantern Festival in Raleigh
Visit Cary this January to see a spectacle unlike any other. The North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival, which kicked off at the end of November, concludes its colorful and glowing displays and performances on January 13th. Visit the beautiful and artistic display featuring thousands of LED lights hand made in Zigong, Sichuan, the lantern-making capital of China for the last few thousand years.
To experience the North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival, take the half-mile walk through the 20 exhibits at Booth Amphitheatre. Take in the view and relax at the crescent deck and savor the servings from food and beverage stands selling holiday treats and drinks as well as wanton shrimp with thai chiu sauce, warm ginger-bread and whipped cream, and fresh-baked cookies. Cultural performances such as Chinese dancing, foot juggling, vase juggling, Wushu, and Kung Fu, will also take to the stage throughout the evening while craft artisans will be selling handmade wares.
The most impressive part of the Chinese Lantern Festival, though, is the imposing Chinese Dragon on Symphony Lake. The 200-foot-long and 21-foot-high glowing Chinese dragon is a mesmerizing spectacle, and it’s new every year. Other displays feature pandas, peacocks, koi fish, pagodas, and more for the first time this year.
