The Carolina Creative Side
If you’re up for a warm, relaxing evening stroll, then make plans for the 2nd Friday ArtWalk in Carrboro and Chapel Hill. The event is a once-monthly opportunity held 6-9PM on the second Friday of every month for visitors and locals to experience the area’s creative arts scene, explore the galleries, studios, and venues, and to meet and socialize with the artists themselves. You’ll also get to experience live music, great food, and hands-on art demonstrations. And don’t forget about the great deals and discounts!
Some featured stops you’ll find on the ArtWalk are cultural keystones like the Ackland Art Museum, the ArtsCenter, Carrboro Town Hall, and FRANK Gallery while others have handmade, artisanal pieces in the realms of fantastical sculpture to traditional jewelry. The Ackland Art Museum will have a featured exhibit titled Court and Capital that centers around art from Asia’s capital cities and the transformation of these feudal villages to the modern megacities we know today.
Creative Metalsmiths is one stop in the line-up of twenty-seven in the 2nd Friday ArtWalk that is worth going out of your way for. It’s a specialized one-of-a-kind design store established in 1978 and one of the only all-metal galleries in the southeast United States. It has focused its skills into crafting original wedding and engagement rings out of mokume, a stunning laminate metal that was created in ancient Japan.
